  1. Hi Jason,

This is a long shot but I hope I reach you.

I have just started a new post as Cromarty Community Development Trust’s Development Officer; aimed at getting some built and (unbuilt) community projects underway. I am currently trying to update and organise the Trust’s database and get everything in one place. One of the projects I will be looking at is an adaptive reuse for the Townsland Barn.

I have been handed a folder with your (paper) copy of the Townlands Barn in it, and I wondered if there is ANY chance that you might have an electronic copy that you could forward to me. On seeing it I remembered that you undertook the study whilst I was also employed by RGU.

Colin and I are still together, and both now in Inverness (as of the past 17 years) – we love Highland life. We were out in Australia ourselves for the year of 2001. I don’t know where you are based at present (possibly Australia by your sketches)?? I don’t know if you are still with Lorna (but if so Hi!) ?? Regardless I hope life is treating you ok, and this finds you well.

Lovely to see your beautiful drawings,

    Kindest regards, Julie

    1. Julie,

Thanks for making contact. I reckon you must be amongst a handful of people who have somehow happened upon this site… glad you like the drawings.

Unfortunately I have no digital copy of the Townlands Barn. It was done on Microsoft word but was so long ago (yep, getting old) that I never ended up keeping a copy. However it may be worth checking with Historic Scotland who I did the study for. I sent them hard and soft copy. They may still have this on file. I don’t think I even have the original pencil measured drawings. It’s a fantastic building. I’d be interested to know what you end up doing with it.

I’m now in Perth, Australia and have been here for eight years but have been in Australia for 18 years (Sydney and Melbourne). It has all gone very quickly. I have my own consultancy doing design and design management working with clients, architects and contractors. All fun! Lorna and I are still together. Good to hear you and Colin are still together. To be honest I don’t know many people who have split. We must be a ‘loyal’ generation. Say Hi to Colin; I hope all is well and you are both are having loads of fun in Inverness. Beautiful part of the world.

Keep in contact. If I can help in anyway with the Townsland Barn let me know. email: jasongboyle@gmail.com

      :o)
